Columbia Police report IRS scams

An IRS scam has been reported to Columbia Police multiple times in the past week.

Police say they have received several reports of a caller claiming to work for the IRS. The caller threatens the person on the phone with a lawsuit and tries to learn personal and financial information about that person.

Police say they want to remind residents to never give personal information to an unknown company or person over the phone. They also say people can call the IRS if they have questions about any similar phone calls.
