Deadly Cooper County crash will be investigated

UPDATE: The Tipton police were the ones who initiated the traffic stop.

MSHP troopers were the ones who were called to investigate the crash and will recreate it.

ORIGINAL: The Missouri Highway Patrol will investigate a deadly crash in Cooper County.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon near Potts Lane. Troopers said they tried to stop 38-year-old Jeffrey Stogs-Dill on traffic violations. He drove away and ended up driving off the road. Troopers said he tried to jump out of his truck before hitting a tree, and he was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on a flight to a nearby hospital.

The Highway Patrol said it will investigate the crash, but not the pursuit leading up to it. Part of that investigation will include crash reconstruction.
