Unseasonably cool weekend
We’ll get a break from summer heat and humidity as we head into the first official weekend of summer. Temperatures and humidity will drop as cool, Canadian air moves in behind a cold front which moves through Friday morning.
The upper level winds which steer storm systems and air masses across the country will shift to the north by Saturday, sending the cooler air in our direction. A ridge of high pressure aloft building on the West Coast will force winds aloft into northwestern Canada which will then dive back south into the central states. This pattern will persist through Tuesday, keeping us in the mild weather.
Nights will drop into the 50s from Friday night through Monday night and days will reach the upper 70s to near 80 which are below average for late-June. Average low temperatures this time of year are at 66 and highs at 86.
The high pressure ridge in the west is forecast to flatten out by the middle of next week and our upper level winds will shift back to the west. This will open the door for waves of low pressure to move in from the west, increasing storm chances and will bring warmer air back into Mid-Missouri with high temperatures jumping into the mid to upper 80s by the end of the week.
