Jefferson City bar’s liquor license in question after arrest with gun

A Jefferson City bar’s liquor license is in question after police arrest a man who is accused of firing a gun on the bar’s property while drunk.

ABC 17 News reported that police arrested Allen Tatman at Paddy Malone’s Irish Pub on West Main Street in April.

Next Thursday, the city’s liquor control board is set to hold a hearing on the incident.

Tatman’s wife is the official owner of the bar and holds the liquor license, according to Margie Mueller, who is the city’s finance director and a member of the liquor control board.

The liquor control board will look into whether Allen Tatman was part-owner or an employee at the bar at the time of his arrest.

ABC 17 News spoke to the owner of Paddy Malone’s Thursday, who said she had no comment on the incident and was not aware of the liquor control board’s hearing.

The arrest report obtained by ABC 17 News said Tatman fired a flintlock rifle off the bar’s back patio.

Officers went into the bar shortly after and spoke to Tatman. They reportedly noticed he was visibly intoxicated with slurred speech, glassy eyes and was surrounded by multiple open bottles.

Tatman reportedly fired the antique-style rifle again in an attempt to show officers it was not loaded. But the weapon still discharged, causing a large burst of sparks.

Tatman was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, since it is illegal to fire a gun while intoxicated.

He has a hearing set for July 28 in Cole County Court on the criminal charge.

The liquor control board is set to discuss the incident in a meeting next Thursday at 2 p.m.
