Mizzou to rent out rooms at residence halls for football games, campus events

The University of Missouri will now rent out rooms at residence halls for football games and campus events.

Vice Chancellor Gary Ward announced the initiative at the UM Curators meeting Thursday. It’s all part of Mizzou’s master plan to generate revenue and help make up the budget shortfall.

A new link on the Mizzou website launched Wednesday night. It allows guests to rent a two-bedroom suite for $120 per night.

In addition to residence halls being used for guest housing, Ward said all seven residence halls that are currently closed will be re-purposed. ABC 17 News previously reported in April when three additional residence halls closed due to enrollment concerns.

The guest housing is part of the university’s short term strategy. Long term, Ward said they hope to have a three percent increase in students living on campus. He said that will allow them to break even, fiscally, by 2019. Ward also added that they plan to more strictly enforce the policy that all freshman students must live on campus.
