Man charged with stealing in Cooper County
A man has been charged with stealing in Cooper County, accused of taking items from a woman while promising to do work at her home.
Donald Gerlt is charged with the Class D felony. Charging documents say Gerlt offered to help a 64-year-old woman move. She later noticed several items had gone missing, and told law enforcement Gerlt took them. Those items totaled $1,770. The documents also said Gerlt could have stolen more items.
Gerlt also did not complete work around the victim’s home that she had paid him to do. When she tried to contact him, he would not answer her phone calls.
