Investigation into fish deaths underway at the Lake of the Ozarks
On Tuesday, the Missouri Department of Conservation confirmed it was investigating a fish kill happening at the Lake of the Ozarks.
A fish kill is a localized die-off of fish populations.
“The fish deaths appear to be caused by an illness, possibly a bacterial or fungal infection, and not by pollution,” said Robert Hemmelgarn, with the Missouri Department of Conservation.
Hemmelgarn said the fish kill was a natural occurrence to which fish with weaker immune systems are more susceptible.
It is unclear how long the fish kill will last, but the illness causing it cannot be transferred to people.
