Law enforcement says nuclear reactor clear of possible threat
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Explosive Disposal Unit, along with military specialists with Fort Leonard Wood, completed tests on a suspicious package Saturday morning.
The package was found Friday afternoon near the door to the nuclear connector at Missouri University’s Science and Technology campus.
Students and employees in Parker Hall, Fulton Hall, the physics building and Interdisciplinary Engineering building were evacuated while university police investigated the area.
Authorities said the suspicious package was a plastic bag of materials. As of Saturday morning, it had been determined there were no explosives or any dangerous chemicals in it.
The campus buildings that were evacuated have been reopened and the university is back to normal operating standards.
University police continue to investigate the incident with assistance from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
