Heat Advisory Saturday for parts of Mid-Missouri
The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for Saline, Pettis, Benton, Camden, Morgan, Miller and Cooper counties. This advisory goes into effect 12 PM Saturday until 7PM Saturday. Heat advisories are issued when a period of hot temperatures are expected.
Actual air temperatures will be in the 90s on Saturday, but with the heat and humidity combined heat indices will be upwards to 110 degrees by the late afternoon. It is also important to note that it could feel up to 15 degrees warmer in the direct sunlight.
These conditions greatly increase the chances for heat related illness. Heat exhaustion is common when heat indices rise into the 100s. Some signs of heat exhaustion include: excessive sweating, skin cool to the touch, nausea and vomiting, and rapid or weak pulse.
To protect yourself from heat related illness take extra precautions and avoid prolonged time spent outside. It is a good idea to avoid strenuous activity, or limit them to the early morning or late evening hours. Always stay hydrated and wear light or loose fitting clothes to keep cool. If you must be outside, take frequent breaks and avoid direct sunlight.
