COLE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man could soon face charges after a shooting in Cole County on Tuesday night.

The shooting happened around 6:50 p.m. in the 5200 block of Collier Court, according to the Cole County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said witnesses told investigators a man shot at his girlfriend and left the area in a car.

The suspect was later identified as Rafael Jones Jr., according to the sheriff's office. Jefferson City police officers pulled Jones over at Stadium Boulevard and Edgewood Drive just before 7:10 p.m. Police took Jones into custody without incident.

Deputies said a gun and a shell casing were found after Jones allowed deputies to search the car.

Jones is a convicted felon, which makes it illegal for him to have a gun, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies said Jones was arrested on possible charges of first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm.
