Juvenile arrested for barn fire at Nifong Park

UPDATE 6/1: CPD took a 13-year-old boy into custody Wednesday afternoon for the barn fire.

After interviewing witnesses who saw the juvenile in the area before the fire, the juvenile was found and taken into custody for misdemeanor reckless burning or exploding.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Columbia Fire Department was called to a fire at Nifong Park on Wednesday. According to reports, it was an intentionally set fire.

Fire crews got to the scene and saw smoke coming from a storage barn next to the park’s restrooms.

The damage from the fire is estimated to be $1000 and was contained to the structure and some wood that was stored inside of the building.

After an investigation, it was determined that the fire started on the ground along the south wall. There were no injuries.
