Car crashes into power pole in central Columbia

Emergency crews responded to a car crash in the 200 block of Sexton Road just before 6 a.m.

Columbia police say a woman with two children were in the vehicle. Officers are still investigating what caused the crash, but police say speed played a factor in it.

The female driver was transferred to a local hospital for cautionary reasons but seemed to be fine.

Officers say the children were also unharmed.

Police say the car is totaled.

Columbia Water and Light crews were on scene to fix the broken power pole and to return eectricity to houses around the area.

Crews ask drivers to avoid the area if at all possible for a few hours as crews work on the road.
