Increasing confidence for severe storms Saturday
As Saturday afternoon continues to draw close, one thing is for sure: Severe storms look likely across most of Mid-Missouri.
The atmosphere heading into tomorrow will be ripe for all modes of severe weather as we move from 3 PM until 10 PM. With more than enough moisture (dew points are expected to be in the lower 70s); plenty of energy (due to a very unstable atmosphere); and some helicity (which is the amount of spin found in the updraft of thunderstorms), storms will quickly become severe
Think of a popcorn kernel in the microwave.
The right ingredients are there to make popcorn, they just have to be at work all together. That’s what we’ll see tomorrow.
A parcel of air, acting as the kernel, will come in contact with the energy from our atmosphere, acting as the microwave, and rapidly intensify into a potentially dangerous storm, or the popped corn.
While the first part of Saturday looks decent, as we head into the afternoon and evening hours we can expect storms to fire.
