Several local wrestlers in state title contention
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The MSHSAA Wrestling State Championships continued at Mizzou Arena on Friday night, as multiple Mid-Missouri wrestlers punched their tickets to the title match.
In class one action, Centralia put up a dominant performance over two days. The Panthers will have four wrestlers vying for a state championship on Saturday:
- 120 lbs - Brayden Dubes
- 145 lbs - Kyden Wilkerson
- 160 lbs - Brayden Shelton
- 285 lbs - Seth Hasekamp
Following the semifinals, Centralia is in second place as a team, just seven points behind Mid-Buchanan, who is in first place.
The Helias Crusaders are also in second place at the end of day two. The team will have two wrestlers competing for a title:
- 120 lbs - Carter Prenger
- 126 lbs - Jack Lage
Lage will look for his second-straight state championship, as he will meet Kirksville senior Hunter Tarr on Saturday. Overall, the Crusaders have six wrestlers guaranteed to medal, including Wyatt Forck, Logan Montoya, Drake Perkins, and Tanner Napier.
The Fulton Hornets also finished semifinal action in the top-ten, with two wrestlers in title matches:
- 138 lbs - Owen Uhls
- 220 - Josh Dunmire
Uhls, a Mizzou commit, will look for his third state title on Saturday evening. He will have a rematch with Hallsville's Gavynn Carpenter, who he met in the district championships.
The Jefferson City Jays are also in contention for a team medal, as the group finished the day in fourth place in class three.
The Hickman Kewpies put themselves in good position for a team medal as well, as the group currently sits in second place in class four. Hank Benter and Hayden Benter will both compete for a state title.
The finals will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Mizzou Arena on Saturday.
