Officer assaulted at Callaway County Jail

UPDATE 5/26: Callaway County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Fulton Police Department officers responded to the Callaway County Jail regarding a disturbance on Wednesday night.

A 19-year-old inmate at the Callaway County Jail had attacked a corrections officer, unprovoked.

The corrections officer was conducting routine duties within the jail when the attack occurred, and was taken to a local hospital for injuries. The corrections officer was released from the hospital, but hasn’t been able to return to normal duty.

The inmate’s current charges involve weapons and trespassing offenses. The jail assault is pending as another possible charge.
