Jury unable to reach verdict in 2015 Columbia shooting trial

After three and a half hours of deliberation Wednesday, a jury said it remained split in a 2015 Columbia double shooting case.

Mylonyo Cunningham was charged with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action in the August 2015 shooting on Peachtree Drive that sent two men to the hospital.

Witnesses reported there was a fight before gunshots rang out and then a car drove away from the scene.

Once the jury announced it was unable to reach a verdict, Cunningham’s attorney asked for Judge Christine Carpenter to declare a hung jury. The prosecuting attorney didn’t object.

Judge Carpenter said Cunningham’s case would be prosecuted again; however, a new court date was not set.
