CPS planning for next 10 years; eliminating trailers a priority

As the current school year winds down, the planning process for the next 10 years begins.

Columbia Public Schools Long Range Facilities Planning Committee has started looking at preliminary additions and constructions to schools within the district.

The committee met Tuesday afternoon to discuss what projects they believe are priorities for the next 10 years.

Lee, Rock Bridge, Ridgeway, Battle, and Benton Elementary Schools are all up for possible expansions and additional projects.

Darin Preis, Columbia School Board President, told ABC 17 News it’s important to plan 10 years ahead to make sure the district continues to keep up with the growth of Columbia.

Preis, along with other board members, said they want to continue eliminating trailers in schools. Nearly 10 years ago, there were 173 trailers. Now, the district has 70, eliminating an additional 10 this summer.

The board said they will get public input on some priority projects around September.
