Prescription drug monitoring program fails in Missouri

Missouri will not be getting a statewide prescription drug monitoring program.

On Friday, the legislature failed to pass House Bill 90, a measure that would create a database to track prescription drug purchases across the state.

Under the bill, doctors and pharmacists could see when patients are prescribed and receive medications.

Bill sponsor Rep. Holly Rehder (R)-Sikeston had said the goal was to prevent addictions and block doctor shopping, when patients go from doctor to doctor for prescriptions.

Some opponents in Missouri cited invasion of privacy concerns with the proposed database.
