Suspect arrested after high-speed chase through Boone County

Boone County sheriff deputies arrested a man wanted on a no-bond felony warrant Sunday afternoon after a high-speed chase through the county.

Sgt. Tracey Cleeton said deputies arrested William Stockwell after he ran out of gas on Highway 22 just outside of Mexico in Audrain County.

Cleeton said the department had information Stockwell was on his way to Callaway County. Deputies tried to pull him over on Highway 22 near Sturgeon when the chase started. Speeds reached 100 mph.

On April 28, the prosecutor’s office charged Stockwell with maintaining a public nuisance for frequent law enforcement stops at his property in the 500 block of Waldo Court.

In November, deputies were called to the home for reports of a robbery and shots fired.

Stockwell is also accused of leading authorities on another chase in December that eventually ended in his arrest.
