Lightning strikes landfill, causes fire near Jefferson City

Firefighters say lightning is to blame for an early morning fire near the Jefferson City limits.

ABC 17 News first started hearing reports of the fire just before 5:00am Wednesday.

It happened at a landfill near Highway 63 at the Moreau River Access behind the Missouri State Highway Patrol Headquarters.

Our ABC 17 News crews saw smoke coming from the area.

Right now it’s unclear if the fire caused any damage.
