COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A month-long history exhibit at the Armory Sports Center in downtown Columbia is among the ways the City of Columbia will mark Black history this month.

The exhibit will be on display weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the armory's 701 E. Ash St. location.

The armory will also host a screening of the film "Southside with You," which offers a dramatized portrayal of Barack Obama and future first lady Michelle Robinson's first date, at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

St. Luke United Methodist Church on Ash Street will host the Gospel Explosion and Soul Food Dinner at 4 p.m. Feb. 27. The program will feature local gospel artists.

All the activities are free and open to the public.

“There are many examples from Columbia’s history that highlight the accomplishments and struggles faced by African Americans," City Manager De'Carlon Seewood said in a news release. "I invite all of our residents to take part in and celebrate this month’s activities being hosted by the City and other community partners.”
