Weather Alert Day: Dangerous wind chills anticipated again Saturday morning

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has extended the Weather Alert Day through Saturday morning for frigid low temperatures in the low single digits, and wind chills below zero.

Gusty northwest winds continue to rock the region, and with a blanket of snow on the ground as skies clear, we'll see lows falling into the single digits across the board on Friday morning. Wind chills will drop to about -5 to -10, making it dangerous to be outside with exposed skin for more than 10 minutes.

High temperatures on Friday climb to the upper 20s as sunshine returns, but clear skies on Friday night coupled with snow cover will allow temperatures to dip to just above zero once again. Even as winds die down, a slight breeze at those temperatures will send the wind chill below zero to start the weekend on Saturday morning.

We begin to warm up with sunshine and winds shifting more southerly on Saturday as highs get into the upper 30s.

Try to limit your time outside as much as possible, and if you have to shovel snow off your driveway or sidewalk, make sure to wear properly fitting hats and gloves.

Keep pet visits outside to a minimum, and wipe their feet dry before coming back inside to prevent dry cracked paws.

Frost bite can set in in less than an hour with wind chills between -5 and -10.
