Tracking frigid wind chills, slick road conditions

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy and cold with lows in the low single digits. Wind chills between -5 to -10 degrees as winds gust up to 20 mph.

TOMORROW: Clearing and cold with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 20s.

EXTENDED: Snow showers are coming to an end in the viewing area, with a few flurries leftover for areas along I-44. We'll hold onto cloud cover tonight, but strong winds continue. Gusts up to 20 mph will make it feel like about -5 to -10 degrees in the morning with lows falling into the single digits. We'll finally see the sun again tomorrow, but snow cover keeps us in the upper 20s. We have extended our Weather Alert Day into Saturday AM thanks to another clear night with lows in the low single digits. Wind chills Saturday morning will yet again drop to about -5 to -10. Sunshine on Saturday warms us into the upper 30s. We'll warm a bit more on Sunday to just under 40, but a dry front moving in Sunday night should drop us to about 10 degrees on Monday morning with highs hovering just below freezing. Next week is looking largely dry, but we'll settle back into a pattern where we have some ups and down in temperature, especially toward the end of the week. We should see some decent melting on Thursday into Friday with temperatures climbing near 50. Trends indicate we'll have a chilly Super Bowl Sunday.
