Former MU men’s basketball coach accepts new position

Former University of Missouri men’s basketball coach Kim Anderson has accepted a new position.

According to a press release issued by Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas on Friday afternoon, Anderson will take over the school’s men’s basketball program.

Pittsburg State is a NCAA Division II school and a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).

The program finished last season with an overall record of 5-22 (.185) and 3-16 (.158) in conference play.

The university plans to formally introduce Anderson with a welcome ceremony and press conference at 11 a.m. Monday at John Lance Arena.

Anderson rejoins the Division II ranks after spending the last three years at the helm of the University of Missouri men’s basketball program.

University of Missouri Athletic Director Jim Sterk announced earlier this month that Anderson would step down from the position after compiling an overall record of 27-68 (.284).

Before joining MU, Anderson had previously coached at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri, where he led the men’s basketball team to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship.
