Michael Porter Sr. to join Mizzou men’s basketball staff

Michael Porter Sr. is returning to Columbia. Porter told ABC 17 Sports Director Austin Kim he accepted an offer to join Cuonzo Martin’s staff at Mizzou.

The news was first reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The former Mizzou women’s basketball assistant spent the last year at Washington, coaching the men’s team. The Huskies recently fired Lorenzo Romar and his staff last week, opening up the opportunity for Porter to explore his option.

Porter Sr.’s move back to Columbia means his talented sons could join the Mizzou men’s basketball team. Michael Porter Jr. is the top recruit for the Class of 2017. Jontay Porter is also a high-level prospect in the class of 2018, but could reclassifying and move up a class to play with his older brother. Michael Porter Jr. and Jontay Porter both played at Father Tolton Catholic High School, helping the Blazers win a state championship in 2016.

Porter’s two oldest sons, however, have not confirmed if they committed to play for MU as of Thursday evening.
