Officials tell residents to prep early before the incoming snowstorm

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Monday afternoon, the city of Columbia sent out a release, warning of the dangers of the upcoming storm and telling residents they should prepare early before the severe weather hits the area.

Columbia said residents should run errands and shop for groceries early to avoid traveling during the bad weather.

The city of Columbia said the public works department is currently prepping its snowplows, equipment and preparing a response plan for the heavy snowfall expected throughout Wednesday and Thursday.

Columbia said they plan on having additional utility crews on standby in case of strong winds and ice on power lines which could cause potential power outages.

The Red Cross said in case of loss of power, individuals should never use an oven or stovetop to heat their home. People using a space heater should always leave three feet of space in between the heater and items which could catch fire and children/pets.

The Red Cross said space heaters should never be left unattended.
