Columbia police investigating robbery at Auto Zone

Officers were dispatched to the Auto Zone on Business Loop 70 East just before 10 p.m. Friday for reports of a robbery.

A Columbia police sergeant said a man came into the store and demanded money from the register. He told employees he had a gun in his pocket, but the weapon was never shown.

The man is believed to have left the scene on foot heading east on Business Loop.

A K-9 unit was brought in to try to track the robber down, but was unsuccessful. Several CPD officers were also positioned behind businesses along the Business Loop.

The CPD sergeant said the robber wasn’t wearing gloves during the robbery, so officers were looking for fingerprints on the store’s door. He said they also have surveillance video from Auto Zone.

The robber is a light-skinned black man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build.

No one was hurt during the robbery.
