Wind Picks up Friday with Falling Temperatures
TODAY: Some rain overnight near HWY 24 brought estimated rain totals of 1″. Fog is possible near HWY 24 this morning, although fog will likely not be widespread. Temperatures are also falling this morning and the wind will pick up. A west/northwest wind will pick up by 7AM-8AM where winds will gust at this time near 25 mph, and near 35 mph by afternoon. The morning commute will have temperatures in the low 50s before falling to the upper 40s in the afternoon. The wind chill in the afternoon will range from 35-40 in most locations.
TONIGHT: Light rain is possible by 5PM west of US 63 before changing over to light snow by 7PM near Chariton, Randolph, and Howard counties. Light snow looks possible from 9PM through 12AM for Columbia, while no accumulation is expected. Temperatures tonight fall quickly to the upper 20s with a wind chill of 15-20 by 2AM.
EXTENDED: Saturday morning looks frigid with wind chill in the teens through 10AM with increasing sun. The weekend looks more like late-winter with temperatures only reaching the low 40s Saturday and mid to upper 40s Sunday with cold nights in the upper 20s. Sunday there is a chance for a rain/snow mix during the day and evening starting up after 12PM for areas near HWY 65 and increasing into Columbia by 1PM. No accumulation is expected surface air temperatures will be in the upper 30s to near 40 during this time. This looks to change over to all liquid by Sunday evening ending by early Monday morning. It looks like the mid 60s will be possible again by Tuesday with a chance of rain and perhaps a few rumbles of thunder during the day Tuesday.
