Columbia man sentenced to probation for role in 2016 shooting

A Boone County judge sentenced a Columbia man to five years supervised probation Tuesday after pleading guilty to one count unlawful use of a weapon.

Mariquan Midgyett was charged in connection to a Sept. 2016 shooting in the 1500 block of Raleigh Drive in north Columbia.

No one was hurt in the shooting, but police found three separate residences that were hit by the gunfire.

Police said they found evidence that led them to believe the gunfire could have been between two parties.

According to court documents, a witness at the time of the shooting saw Midgyett there, but only knew him by his first name.
