JCPD releases ‘Click it or Ticket’ results
The Jefferson City Police Department’s traffic unit released its citation statistics for the statewide “Click It Or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign in which they participated.
The enforcement effort on Feb. 16 resulted in 37 citations:
1 for following too closely 3 failure to yield the right of way 4 for speeding 5 for adult seat belt violations 2 for child restraints 5 driving while suspended/revoked 9 uninsured motorists 8 for other hazardous moving violations, defective vehicle equipment and improper registration
“Seat belts are your single best defense in a crash,” said Chief Roger Schroeder. “We will continue to encourage drivers to make the simple and smart choice to buckle up and to use the appropriate child safety seat for children.”
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a driver who is not wearing a seat belt is 42 times more likely to be killed in a car accident than a driver who is buckled up.
