Hwy 63 lane reopened after DNR called out to tractor trailer fire in Columbia

UPDATE 8:34 am: Firefighters tell ABC17 the tractor-trailer was carrying used car batteries.

The DNA was called out because batteries are considered hazardous material.

Firefighters are still looking into the amount of property damage and what the cause of the fire is.

ORIGINAL: Emergency crews responded to a tractor-trailer that had caught on fire near Stadium just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

When our crews arrived on scene they noticed the back of the tractor-trailer was smoking and a lane of traffic was blocked on the 63 overpass.

Both Columbia fire and police responded to the scene and were there for hours.

The Department of Natural Resources was called to the scene as well but authorities didn’t say why.

Authorities would also not answer what was inside the tractor-trailer.

ABC17 called DNR to find out if any fuel or other chemicals leaked during the fire and are waiting to hear back.
