Limited rain leads to dry conditions in mid-Missouri

The majority of mid-Missouri is classified as “abnormally dry,” according to the United States Drought Monitor. Parts of Randolph, Macon, and Monroe counties are considered to be in a “moderate drought.” Abnormally dry areas are areas where there is short term dryness and where slowing of plant and crop growth is common. In areas where there is a moderate drought, we can expect to see damage to crops and a low amounts of water in streams or reservoirs.

In mid-Missouri, we can expect to see these drought conditions continue for the time being since there is no chance of rain in the forecast for the entire week. These mild and dry conditions also enhance the risk of fires. It is important to be cautious of any outdoor burning during these times, especially when windy conditions are present. High winds help these outdoor fires spread easily.
