Veteran firefighter injured in crash while responding to fire

A firefighter with the Southeastern Randolph Fire Protection District was seriously injured in a crash while heading to a fire Saturday afternoon.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the crash happened on Business Highway 63 near Renick.

Troopers said the Kenneth McCune, 57, was driving eastbound when he went off the side of the road, hit a culvert and the firetruck overturned. McCune was ejected from the truck.

McCune was taken to University Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Capt. Charlie Peel, with the Southeastern Randolph Fire Protection District, said McCune has been with the department for many years.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
