Lincoln University to reactivate history program
Seven months after their deactivation, Lincoln University announced Thursday that the college will once again offer bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees in history, with concentrations in public history, research and writing and middle/high school education, beginning in the Fall 2017 semester.
Department faculty worked with outside consultants to redesign the degree programs.
“As the programs were reevaluated, so was the curriculum,” said a University spokesman. “Courses have been refocused and will now bring more modern strategies to teach historical principles, including greater use of today’s technology. In addition, the plan includes creating internships and career opportunities with state and local governmental agencies and private interests locally, as well as better data maintenance of alumni of the history program.”
Two tenured professors of history were fired in late 2016 amid the program’s suspension, including Dr. Mark Leslie.
Leslie tells ABC 17 News that he has not yet heard from the University on whether or not this reactivation will reverse his dismissal.
