Home a total loss, occupant safe after house fire in Mokane overnight

UPDATE 4:38am: Firefighters tell ABC 17 News the home is a total loss, but say the man living there was able to make it out safely.

They say two departments responded to the scene around 1:00 Friday morning and found the home fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters tell us the fire did spread to another home nearby, but say they were able to save that home. The second home did sustain some exterior damage, but it’s unclear how much repairs will cost right now.

Firefighters say they have not yet determined a cause and say they’ll stay on the scene for a few more hours to monitor hot spots and to make sure nothing ignites again.

ORIGINAL: Firefighters are on the scene of a house fire right now in Callaway County.

ABC 17 News first started hearing reports about the fire just after 1:00 Friday morning.

It happened on 2nd Street and appears to have involved a house.

Our ABC 17 News crews saw firefighters spraying water on the home and it was still smoking around 4:00am. The home appears to have sustained significant damage.

ABC 17 News has a crew on the scene working to find out if anyone was hurt, if the fire is contained and how much damage it caused.
