Columbia traffic stop results in chase and arrest

UPDATE 2/8: Perry was driving a white car with two different license plates. When the officers made contact with Perry, he claimed that he had just bought the car. Perry did not have his license, and while being detained, he pushed the officer and took off on foot.

Officers attempted to tase Perry, but his clothes blocked it form working.

Officers found methamphetamine, cocaine and 11 diazepam pills in his jean pockets. After being transported to the jail, he was searched again. Cocaine was found on his person.

Perry’s driver’s license is suspended in Missouri.

ORIGINAL STORY: A man was taken into custody after a brief chase Tuesday afternoon.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department told ABC 17 News a deputy tried pulling over a car on Oakbrook Drive around 3:19 p.m. for a registration violation.

The driver of the car, Aaron Perry of Columbia ran away, but deputies were able to quickly catch him on Kent Drive.

A medical response was issued as routine, and was not needed for the incident.

Perry was arrested for three counts of possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, third degree assault on a law enforcement officer, introduction of contraband in a correctional facility, and failure to register a motor vehicle.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department said the 31-year-old was also booked on a harassment charge unrelated to this incident.
