Columbia man arrested for multiple counts of assault, endangering welfare of child

On Monday at 12:04 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance in progress in the 1200 block of Larch Court.

Rogelio Martinez-Mendoza and a female victim were in an intimate relationship. The victim reported that Martinez-Mendoza came to her residence uninvited and removed a board that was securing her front door.

According to the victim, once Martinez-Mendoza entered the residence, he assaulted her by punching her in the face several times. The victim said that her three year old daughter was in her hand at the time she was being assaulted. The officer saw redness on both sides of the victim’s face.

The victim’s ten year old daughter was also inside the residence during the assault and Martinez-Mendoza attempted to hit her in the face with a closed fist. The ten year old ran from the residence and contacted a neighbor to get help. The neighbor ran next door to try and help, but Martinez-Mendoza assaulted the male neighbor by punching him in the face several times. Officers saw the male victim’s right eye was swelling and that he had a bloody nose.

Officers contacted two more male victims, ages 26 and 31. One of the male victims received a phone call from the female victim’s ten year old daughter about Martinez-Mendoza assaulting her mother. The male victim, age 26, and the other male victim, age 31, arrived at the residence and told Martinez-Mendoza to leave, but he refused and continued to assault the female victim.

The male victims said they attempted to restrain Martinez-Mendoza, but he began striking them multiple times with a closed fist and a baseball bat. The male victims said that they were able to get the baseball bat away from Martinez-Mendoza and secure it in their vehicle. The male victims said that was when the male neighbor came to the house to try and restrain Martinez-Mendoza so that the other male victims could leave.

Martinez-Mendoza was arrested in the 1200 block of Larch Court for armed criminal action, first degree burglary, two counts of third degree domestic assault misdemeanor, two counts of first degree endangering the welfare of a child felony and two counts of second degree assault.
