Governor Greitens has signed the Right to Work bill

In a 100-59 vote, the House passed right to work legislation sponsored by Rep. Holly Rehder. The combined legislation consists of Rehder’s bill, HB 91, as well as house bills 42, 131, 265 and 314.

All the bills essentially call for lifting a requirement for an employee to join a labor union and pay union dues.

“Governor Greitens should have had the courage to sign this bill into law before employees at Boeing, Ford or one of the many other proud union shops in our state so he could explain to their faces exactly how Missouri will be better off when they have less power to negotiate for higher wages, decent benefits and safer working conditions, ” said House Minority Leader Gail McCann Beatty. “Instead he chose to hide out in an abandoned warehouse far from critical questioning by the hardworking Missourians who, thanks to him, have fewer rights today than they did yesterday.”

Missouri State Treasurer Eric Schmitt released a statement saying, “I congratulate Governor Greitens, Pro-Tem Richard, and Speaker Richardson on making Missouri the 28th Right to Work state and putting us on the path toward economic prosperity. This proven economic development policy will mean higher wages and greater job opportunities for hardworking Missourians.”

The bill would add Missouri to the 17 other states that have adopted such labor policies.
