Two people taken into custody following foot pursuit

Two suspected purse snatchers were taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit in North Columbia.

A Columbia police sergeant at the scene told ABC 17 news that officers were originally dispatched to Moser’s for a purse snatching around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Shortly after, a Columbia police officer spotted the suspects and followed them in their car for about a mile.

The car pulled into the Dollar General on Vandiver Drive where officers stopped it. During the stop, a woman was taken into custody without incident but a man in the car fled off into the woods.

Officers were later able to take the man into custody.

Boone County sheriff deputies were at the scene to assist.

Columbia police say as of now, there are no outstanding suspects and charges are pending.
