Cooper County home a total loss after fire, family escaped safe

UPDATE 7:50 a.m.: Firefighters remain on the scene of a house fire on Y Highway near Highway 87 monitoring smoke.

They say they believe the fire started around 5:00am in a car that was near the garage of the home. They say the two people who lived in the home were already out safely when they called for help.

Firefighters say flames were visible through the roof when they arrived and say the fire then spread through the entire home.

They say the home is a total loss.

Fire officials tell ABC 17 News they’re still investigating what started the fire. There’s no word yet on a damage estimate.

ORIGINAL: Several agencies are on the scene of a structure fire in Cooper County.

ABC 17 News first started hearing reports of the fire just after 6:00 a.m. Monday.

The Cooper County Office of Emergency Management posted about the fire on it’s Facebook page. It’s asking people to avoid the area.

It says it is happening on Y Highway, just off Highway 87.

ABC 17 News has a crew on the way to the scene. We’ll update this story as we learn more.
