Jefferson City carjacking suspect caught after police chase

A 29-year-old man suspected of a carjacking was arrested Saturday afternoon after leading police on a chase.

The Jefferson City Police Department said it received the call about the cajacking in the 3500 block of Missouri Boulevard around 4:30 p.m.

Police said a man was sitting in the car on the passenger side while his wife was shopping inside the store. The victim told police the suspect got in the car and they began to fight over the keys. He said the suspect punched him in the face.

The victim called police after the man took off with the car.

Officers later spotted the car near Industrial Drive and Dix Road. JCPD said officers tried to pull over the suspect, but he continued to drive away.

The chase eventually ended after officers deployed spike strips. The suspect eventually pulled over on Missouri 179 near Cherry Creek Court where he was taken into custody.

JCPD said it is not releasing the name of the suspect at this time. He’s currently in the Cole County Jail pending charges.
