ICE STORM WARNING 12 AM FRIDAY THROUGH 3 PM SUNDAY

TONIGHT: Clouds will increase with winds from the northeast under 15 mph with temperatures turning much colder in the low 20s. Freezing rain is likely as early as 4 AM for areas along the I-44 corridor. Expect the freezing rain to gradually lift northward through the night into the early morning hours.

FRIDAY: Temperatures will stay in the upper 20s to near 30 with easterly winds at 10 mph. Sleet and freezing rain will increase from the south, beginning in the Ozarks as early as 4 AM, spreading north to I-70 by noon and north of I-70 through the afternoon and evening. By 12 PM Friday, ice accumulation up to a tenth is possible at the Lake of the Ozarks to a few hundredths along HWY 50 near Jefferson City. Freezing rain will spread to the north, moving into Columbia between 12PM and 3PM with a glaze of ice possible by mid-afternoon. Periods of freezing rain will continue Friday night through Saturday morning.

EXTENDED: Temperatures will climb above freezing for a few hours south of I-70 Saturday afternoon and freezing rain will temporarily change to rain before changing back to freezing rain Saturday night as temperautures cool to near freezing. Areas close to I-44 will have mainly rain from Saturday night through Sunday but it will take until Sunday for most areas see that change as temperatures gradually climb above freezing from south to north through the day. Sunday night and Monday, all of Mid-Missouri will have rain as temperatures climb above freezing, reaching the mid 50s Monday afternoon, thanks to southerly winds. Total ice accumulation for this event will likely come in anywhere from .20″ to .60″ with local amounts up to .75″ possible. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
