Five candidates running for Columbia City Council as filing deadline approaches

The filing deadline for a seat on the Columbia City Council is 5 p.m. tonight (Tuesday), according to the Columbia City Clerk.

This year, Ward 1 and Ward 5 have seats to fill. Ward 1 covers much of Central Columbia, while Ward 5 covers the southeast part of the city.

The Columbia City Clerk tells ABC 17 News five people have filed to run–three in Ward 1 and two in Ward 5.

The Ward 1 candidates are Pat Kelley, Andrew Hutchinson and incumbent Clyde Ruffin. The Ward 5 candidates are Arthur Jago and Matt Pitzer; incumbent Laura Nauser is not running for re-election.
