Man shot near 700 block of Demaret Drive

A 40-year-old man was wounded by gunfire about 1 a.m. Saturday while sitting in a car in east Columbia, the Boone County Sheriff’s Department said.

The victim was taken to the hospital by his family.

A witness told deputies he heard gunshots, went outside, and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound in his car on Demaret Drive.

Deputies said the victim was expected to survive his injuries.

The Sheriff’s Department said the incident is under investigation.

Deputies said Crime Stoppers will offer a reward for information leading to an arrest whoever is responsible for the shooting. Anyone with information about the shooting can call Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS.

ABC 17 News looked through police dispatch records for calls to Demaret Drive. Over the last few months there have been a handful of disturbance and assault calls, one robbery call, and one shots-fired call in December.
