COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A morning crash on Paris Road killed a Columbia man and a Hallsville woman Wednesday, police said.

The crash in the 5400 block of Paris Road happened when Douglas E. Brooks, 48, was going northbound in the southbound passing lane in his Nissan Maxima and hit Christine L. Kaisher, 52, in her Nissan Sentra head-on, the Columbia Police Department said in a news release.

Kaisher's car went off the road and caught fire after the crash, police said.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Brooks was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Paris Road was closed for several hours after the crash happened at about 7:20 a.m.

Firefighters said one vehicle had heavy front-end damage and another vehicle was found on fire in a ditch.

Boone County Joint Communications alerted drivers at around 7:40 a.m. the road was closed in both directions at Waco Road. Firefighters said Paris Road would stay closed for an extended amount of time.

A viewer sent ABC 17 News a video of the crash that appeared to show a vehicle on fire with heavy black smoke. The footage also shows another vehicle with heavy damage and debris in the middle of the road.

Seven people have been killed in Boone County crashes this week, including deadly crashes on Rock Quarry Road in Columbia and on Highway 63.
