Thursday Afternoon Update:

Snow is leaving the south edge of the viewing area around 1 p.m.

As of 7:00 a.m. Thursday, snow totals largely registered under an inch. Still, more snow has fallen since then, so we may still add to these totals. For example, some reports from later in the morning reported as much as 1.5 inches. Check out this report out of Macks Creek at 9:15 AM.

The remainder of our Weather Alert Day coverage will be focused on the extreme cold forecast for tonight and Friday morning. Wind will die down as we see a wind shift out of the south, but as wind speeds drop, so will temperatures. Wind chill values still drop to near 0 degrees early Friday.

Thursday Morning Update:

Most of the snow has stayed south of HWY 50 this morning. There likely won't be much of a northward push, either, if any at all. Where we're seeing the issues on the roads, is where they'll stay this morning into the afternoon:

• HWY 54 south of Jefferson City
• HWY 63 south of Jefferson City
• I-44

The accumulating snow will push out of here by the late morning hours, and we'll just be left with the cold to contend with for the rest of the day.

Setup

Only a few days after we were tracking sub-zero wind chills, we're gearing up to track another round of winter later this week. Accumulating snow and dangerously cold feels like temperatures are going to be the two biggest concerns.

A cold front will move through early Wednesday morning, bringing the cold air that will set the stage for a secondary disturbance to move into. Temperatures will be well below zero by late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, so snow is the only precipitation type we'll be tracking.

That secondary system will unlock a stronger punch of Arctic air, that will filter in on Thursday.
