The president of Capital Region Medical Center urged patience this week as the hospital continues to recover from a cybersecurity problem and coronavirus and flu place extra demands on services.

The hospital shut down its internet and phone network on Dec. 17 after detecting suspicious activity, Capital Region has said. The issue comes as coronavirus cases are surging amid the emergence of omicron, which is helping to pack hospitals.

"Please note, this incident comes at a time of high patient volumes due to rising cases of flu and COVID-19. As we experience high patient volumes, there may be extended wait times at the emergency department," hospital President Gaspare Calvaruso said in a statement posted Tuesday on Facebook.

The hospital switchboard is working and the message encouraged patients to call for help.

  • CRMC Switchboard Line One: 573-632-5000
  • CRMC Switchboard Line Two: 573-632-5840
  • To speak with a clinic representative, please call: 573-616 6808
  • To speak with a representative of Capital Region Goldschmidt Cancer Center, please call 573-632-4898

Calvaruso said that all patient services remain available at the MU Health Care-affiliated hospital. The hospital's technical team is working to get the network back online, he wrote.
