Thursday Afternoon, December 8
TODAY: One of the coldest days of the year is underway here in Mid-Missouri, as a Canadian High settles in across the region. This is funneling in Arctic air, which is keeping temperatures nearly 20 degrees below normal. We’ll have sunny skies, but it will be frigid throughout the day with highs in the mid 20s and a wind chill only reaching 15-17 by 2PM, thanks to gusty winds near 20.
TONIGHT: It stays cold overnight with a clear sky as temperatures drop even colder to the low teens. A wind chill overnight will fall to the single digits again by 10PM through 9AM Friday morning.
EXTENDED: Wind chills will drop into the single digits again early Friday morning with morning lows in the low teens and afternoon highs in the upper 20s. It looks like we’ll start off the day Saturday with sunshine before 9AM before clouds increase by noon. High temperatures will reach the upper 30s and we finally make it above freezing. Another low pressure system tracks across southern Missouri by Sunday bringing a chance for rain to those south of I-70 and possible a rain/snow mix to those north through Sunday evening. High temperatures stay in the upper 30s through Monday with another blast of arctic air on the way by Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday looks to bring actual air temperatures in the single digits for our northern half by Tuesday night. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
