Winter weather car preparations: What you should have in your car

As snow is expected to reach mid-Missouri Wednesday, local law enforcement is reminding drivers to make sure their windshields are clear before driving.

The Columbia Police Department posted on their Facebook page reminding driver it’s the law to make sure you remove all the frost, snow or ice from your window. If you don’t, you could get a ticket.

ABC 17 News called the courthouse today, to see how much that ticket could cost you. We were told $100, is what a driver could pay if they violate the city ordinance.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is also suggesting drivers should keep at least a half tank of gas at all times. In addition, they should stock an ice scraper, battery booster cables, blankets, coats, gloves, water, nonperishable food, a flashlight, and a bag of sand in the trunk to help keep the car from sliding.
