Monday Afternoon, December 5

TODAY: A dense fog advisory is still in effect for portions of Mid-Missouri through noon. After the fog clears, skies will be mostly clear through 3PM-4PM with highs temperatures in the upper 40s to near 50. Winds will stay from the south under 8 mph.

TONIGHT: Most areas will stay dry tonight, especially north of I-70. Clouds look to increase this evening from the south with rain moving in by midnight near the Lake of the Ozarks. Rain totals through Tuesday morning look to be light under 0.25″ with highest amounts near I-44. Temperatures overnight will remain above normal, and above freezing in the upper 30s to low 40s. Therefore winter weather is not expected.

EXTENDED: Tuesday’s conditions will be partly sunny with temperatures in the lower 40s. We are watching the coldest air yet this season move in by Wednesday night. Along with this significantly colder air, there is a slight chance of snow Wednesday starting in the afternoon. During the day surface temperatures will be above freezing. Aloft temperatures will be cold enough for snow to develop, although accumulation doesn’t look likely during the day. Freezing temperatures look to move in by Wednesday evening with the best chance for minor accumulation from 6PM-10PM, especially west of US 63. Temperatures will plummet to the upper teens Wednesday night, bringing a wind chill close to 1 to 5 degrees by Thursday morning. Friday morning looks to be the coldest this week with an air temperature near 10-15 and a wind chill of 0 in Columbia and possibly subzero north of I-70.
